Somehow it still surprises me when I see this.

I was on LinkedIn last week and stumbled upon a psychotherapist’s profile.

We’ll call him Bill.

Bill’s entire profile was written in 3rd person.

Almost as if it was written by someone else to sing his accolades like he was going to be a guest on someone’s show.

The problem with this approach is there is no warmth to this approach. It’s very clinical.

While the term “clinical” resonates with many Psychotherapists, it does little to help enroll more clients into private practice.

As I looked further into Bill’s LinkedIn profile, I was saddened to find that he hasn’t been posting, sharing, or liking anything in quite some time.

I wondered what would happen if someone requested more information from him about his services.

If he hasn’t been on LinkedIn in a while, would he even see this request?

He’s leaving money on the table.

And finally, I noticed in Bill’s summary section of his LinkedIn profile, he simply listed the modalities that he uses to treat his patients.

It read like a shopping list.

He noted that he could help with a laundry list of mental illnesses rather than declaring a niche to be an expert.

Then he went on to simply list modalities.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Brain Spotting
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
  • Body Mind Centering
  • Biofeedback Therapy

You get the idea.

The problem with this approach is that the average patient has no idea what any of this means.

If you think about it, when someone is looking for help, it is likely the worst time of their life.

They’re scared, they’re struggling and they’re looking for a lifeline.

They need to know that you can help them. That you care.

It’s like the old saying says, “People don’t care how much you know. They want to know how much you care.”

If you need to optimize your LinkedIn profile, we can help you enroll more clients with a profile that will get you noticed.
